Medicaid Behavioral Health: Selecting Medicaid MH/SA Claims and Beneficiaries

Topic Information

This presentation discusses issues in identifying behavioral health claims in Medicaid data. The presentation reviews our approach to identifying these claims. We examine how behavioral health claims are coded and suggest criteria – and the rationale behind those criteria – for identifying people with mental health and substance related conditions from Medicaid claims. This presentation is primarily aimed at analysts – those determining and implementing identification criteria
